When do I Replace a Fuser Fixing Unit in the HP LaserJet 3015 Printer?

The fuser unit (fuser fixing unit) installed in your HP LaserJet 3015 Printer is an important consumable component, which has a lifespan of approx. 50000 pages. The main function of this consumable component is to fix the toner (image) transferred from the photosensitive drum to the paper/media. Please note that the fuser uses heat to permanently bond the toner/image to the paper. The fuser exit rollers are delivering the completed document to the output bin, once the built-in system receives confirmation from the paper-delivery sensor that the paper has been moved from the fusing area. Therefore, the technical condition of the installed fuser unit is directly defining the overall print quality results achieved by your HP LaserJet 3015 Printer. Please install a new fuser unit in your laser printer, if any of the issues listed below appears.

·         Toner smear – This print quality issue is caused by a poor toner adhesion. You should try to increase the fusing temperature from the fuser temperature settings. A new fuser unit must be installed, if the problem persists.

·         Curl or wave – The temperature of the installed fuser unit is too high. You should try to resolve the issue by selecting [Less paper curl] in the [Service] settings menu. Please install a new fuser unit, if the problem persists.

·         The following error message ‘’50 Fuser Error’’ is displayed on the LCD of the device control panel – This is an indication of a fuser hardware error. Please make sure that the fuser unit is installed correctly, and then restart the laser printer. The problematic fuser unit must be replaced, if the message is still displayed afterwards.

How to Install a Fuser Fixing Unit in the HP LaserJet 3015 Printer

Important: Please turn off your HP LaserJet 3015 Printer, unplug its power cable, and wait at least 30 minutes before proceeding with the installation of a new fuser unit (fuser fixing unit).
Please note that the scanner assembly, the printer side covers, the rear cover, the fuser cover, the toner cartridge door, the front cover, the scanner support frame, and the chassis reinforcement plate, must be removed from the printer during the fuser replacement procedure. The removal procedure for each of these components is included separately below.

1.      Scanner assembly
Initially, you must remove the automatic document feeder by rotating it towards you and pulling it away from the main unit. Then, you must squeeze the wire of the output bin until its ends are detached from the mounting holes of the scanner assembly. After that, you must remove the mounting screw of the right-side cover, and then release the rear tabs of the right-side cover. Now, you must release the bottom tab of the right-side cover with a flat-blade screwdriver, and then remove the right-side cover by sliding it towards the front side of the laser printer. Once the right-side cover is removed, you must disconnect the two flat flexible cables (FFCs) and the wire-harness connector, and then open the scanner assembly while pushing its lock release lever. In the next step, you must carefully bend the gear-drive arm bracket towards you to release it, and then pull the bracket toward the right side of the laser printer until its mounting tabs are detached from the holes of the main unit. At this stage of the removal procedure, you must release the link tabs of the scanner assembly, but please make sure that the scanner assembly is not rotated too far towards the rear side of the laser printer. After that, you must attach the scanner-support tool to the scanner assembly, and then remove the screw from the front side of the grounding shield. Now, you must remove the grounding shield, the two FFCs, and the wire-harness from the scanner assembly, and then carefully rotate the scanner assembly towards the rear side of the main unit. Finally, you must remove the scanner assembly from the laser printer.

2.      Printer side covers
Please note that the right side cover was removed during the scanner assembly removal procedure. Therefore, you must remove the mounting screw of the left-side cover, and then release the rear tabs of the left-side cover. After that, you must use a flat-blade screwdriver to release the bottom tab of the left-side cover. Finally, you must remove the left-side cover by pushing it towards the front side of the laser printer.

3.      Toner cartridge door
In the first step, you must open the door of the toner cartridge compartment, and then release its swing arms by gently pushing them down. Once the swing arms are released, you must remove the door of the toner cartridge compartment by rotating it towards the rear side of the main unit and then lifting it up.

4.      Rear cover and fuser cover
Once you have removed the right-side and left-side covers, you must remove the mounting screw of the rear cover. Then, you must release the bottom tabs of the rear cover. After that, you must remove the rear cover from the main unit by slightly rotating its bottom towards you and then pulling it away from the laser printer. Now, you must remove the fuser cover by rotating its bottom towards you.

5.      Front cover
In the initial step, you must release the right-side locking tab of the front cover, and then gently pull the lower-right corner of the front cover towards you. After that, you must release the left-side locking tab of the front cover, and then gently pull the lower-left corner of the cover towards you. Finally, you must remove the front cover from the laser printer by carefully pulling it towards you. Please make sure that all tabs of the front cover are fully seated during the reinstallation of this component.

6.      Scanner support frame and chassis reinforcement plate
Initially, you must remove the six screws from the top side of the scanner support frame, but please be careful not to drop any of the screws into the toner cartridge compartment. Then, you must remove the gear drive bracket from the scanner support frame by rotating it (clockwise) until its arm aligns with the opening. In the next step, you must take the scanner support frame out of the main unit, and then remove the two screws from the front side of the chassis reinforcement plate. Finally, you must take the chassis reinforcement plate out of the laser printer.

7.      Fuser (fixing) unit
Once you have removed the scanner assembly, the printer side covers, the rear cover, the fuser cover, the toner cartridge door, the front cover, the scanner support frame, and the chassis reinforcement door, you must disconnect the cables from the top side of the engine power assembly, and then disconnect the large grounding wire from the rear side of the laser printer. After that, you must detach the wire-harnesses from the wire retainers of the exhausted fuser unit, and then remove the three screws from the delivering PCB sensor. Now, you must remove the exhausted fuser unit from the HP LaserJet 3015 Printer, and then unpack the new component. In the next step, you must remove the delivering PCB sensor from the old fuser unit, and then attach it to the unpacked new component. Once the PCB sensor is attached, you must insert the new fuser unit into the laser printer, but please be careful not to break the tab of the new fuser unit, which must be fitted into the sheet metal. Finally, you must return all previously removed components/parts to their original places into the main unit by following the current replacement procedure in reverse order, and then test your HP LaserJet 3015 Printer.
